How to Care for Premium Quality Pima Cotton T-Shirts
Premium quality Pima cotton t-shirts are – in our admittedly biased opinion - the best investment a man can make in crafting a timeless wardrobe with a touch of added luxury. This soft and durable fabric is known for its longevity, softness, natural cooling properties and eco-friendly sustainability, making it one of the more popular choices among those who value quality over quantity.
This article provides a brief overview of the benefits of Pima Cotton and some simple care practices that can extend the life of your premium quality t-shirts even longer.
Benefits of Pima Cotton Fabric
Pima cotton is made from a longer fiber than other natural fibers. This gives it a little advantage over many of the graphic tees or five-dollar budget items you might find when shopping around. Some of these benefits might include:Â
1 - Longer Lasting:
Pima cotton is more durable and resistant to wear and tear you would typically have with everyday use. This means you get a lot longer useability out of your favorite T-shirts.
2 - Softness:Â
The most immediately notable feature of Pima cotton is its smooth and soft texture. This is again due to the longer fibers which also make the fabric less prone to pilling (fuzzy small ball of fibers you will have noticed on lesser quality fabric after multiple washes).
3 - Naturally Cooling
The soft and lightweight nature of Pima cotton makes it naturally cooling. The breathable fabric absorbs sweat and allows it to evaporate, keeping you cooler in warm temperatures.
4 - Eco-Friendly:
Pima cotton is grown using more sustainable methods that are kinder to the natural environment. To maintain the longer fibers, it must be hand-picked, resulting in less waste and chemicals being put back into the ground.
5 - Less Fading:
One of the best benefits of Pima cotton is that it is known to be less prone to fading with washing. This ensures that your t-shirt will always look good for years to come.
6- Wrinkle Resistant:
The longer fibers make Pima cotton wrinkle-resistant especially when being air-dried. This can often alleviate the need to iron, or just minimally at low heat.

Why Care for Your T-Shirt?Â
The drawback of Pima cotton is that superior quality comes at a higher cost. Ultimately, however, choosing premium quality Pima cotton means having to buy fewer t-shirts, and over time, spending more up-front saves money in the long run. Instead of using a lesser quality t-shirt once or twice that immediately loses its color or breaks down in the wash, you get a t-shirt that maintains its look and premium feel with greater reliability.
This means you can use a premium quality cotton t-shirt for everything like going to the gym, meeting up with friends, under a jacket for a business meeting, or a night out on the town with that special someone. All these things can happen without fading or reducing quality, especially if you take the time to maintain your fabric.
Here are some basic recommendations to ensure you get the most value out of your Pima cotton t-shirt. These aren’t necessarily "must-follow" directions that you have to do, but more of suggested guidelines to ensure your Pima cotton t-shirt lasts as long as possible.
How to Care for Premium Quality Pima Fabric
Tip #1 - Wash in Cold Water, Delicate Cycle:
Cold water washing reduces the risk of shrinking and fading while also reducing wrinkles. Cottons generally shrink after the first wash due to the tightening of the fibers which is why we pre-shrink our Ts. Further shrinking is unlikely or very minimal but can be prevented further by using cold water instead of warm. The same applies to fading, which over an extended period is unavoidable even with less-prone Pima cotton. Â Lastly, cold water washing can further reduce wrinkles, which means less time and energy spent having to iron when you need to be out the door.

Tip #2 - Wash with Like Colors:
The last thing you want is to have any bright colors bleed their dye into premium cotton t-shirts. To avoid getting this kind of damage, it’s suggested to group together dark, medium, and light colors separately. This way, you don't have to worry about your pink polka dot boxers bleeding into your premium Ts.Â
Tip #3 - Wash Your T-Shirt Inside Out:Â
An excellent way to prevent color fading is to place your Pima cotton t-shirt inside out before putting it into the washing machine. This reduces the agitation it might get from the actual act of washing. It helps protect the outside dye of your shirt by reducing friction and contact.Â
Tip #4 - Use a Mild Detergent:Â
Most Pima cotton fibers are a little bit more delicate than other mass-manufactured fibers. That is because they are of higher quality. So you want to avoid using any harsh chemicals or heavy detergents that could break down these fibers. This is especially true for bleach. Using bleach with Pima cotton can discolor the fabric if you’re not too careful.

Tip #5 - Avoid Fabric Softeners:
The idea of fabric softeners is that they reduce friction inside the washing machine and add some pleasing aromas when your items come out of the dryer. The problem is these fabric softeners are typically made of chemicals. They could harm your clothing. It’s better to avoid them altogether and use the other tips on this list to ensure the quality of your Pima cotton shirt.
Tip #6 - Hang to Dry:
High heat inside a clothing dryer can shrink the fabric and damage some natural fibers. It is far better to hang your items to dry or, if you have to use a dryer, to use a very low heat cycle setting.
Â
Tip #7 - Iron on Low Heat:
If you want that freshly pressed look, you’re more than welcome to iron your Pima cotton T. Just make sure you do it on a low setting and turn your shirt inside out to protect any potential fading or damage to the fabric. This will keep everything looking smooth, wrinkle-free, and fantastic the next time you go out. Â
